Private Holdings

As a fund manager, having my investments out in the open beats the need for people to pay the fees we charge for the proprietary information we come up with. Managing to hide Melon fund holdings would be of great help and would bring me one step closer to move the digital asset allocations of my fund over to Melon.

https://offshift.io is making steady progress in PriFi.
I imagine at some point managers will have the option to, using native DeFi infrastructure, swap their spot holdings for zk-synthetics secured on Offshift, providing private transactions and balances.

L2 sidechains can actually be a solution to this. For instance Aztec 2.0 will introduce private transactions. Making not only the fund private but even the trades.

this is a must-have for any proprietary desk/fund... Managers should be able to individually select if they want or not to disclose each asset... including lending protocols.

Mona El Isa: Is the incognito wallet/incognito private assets/pools something that could be of use here?
Àlex Duran
I support. Add the manager's ability to select the information he or she is willing to disclose. I want to close the deals completely. You can open a report on the availability of assets in the fund 1 times a quarter, for example.

Àlex Duran: ... or to have the reports always available, but up to N days ago. This is a possible solution.
Mona El Isa
yup we agree, we will tackle privacy on the roadmap. Our thinking is that few will copy at this early stage (until you have a solid 2 year track record to be worth copying) and our hope is that we find a privacy solution before then.
cojoq
Although it would always be possible to view the fund's holdings on the vault contract, I do support the idea that it shouldn't be as easy to see as it is now in the interface.
Mona El Isa
cojoq: is there a group of people that you think should be able to see it (eg. your investors)?
cojoq
Mona El Isa: yes, after they have authenticated with their wallet, they should be able to see full details including holdings.
Àlex Duran
cojoq: What is the point of closing a portfolio if you can invest a small amount in it and observe all the information of the fund? The investor trusts the management of the fund after he agrees with the conditions fixed in the fund. Then it should not matter how the manager works. He's looking at the results table now.
cojoq
Àlex Duran: you'll never know if an investor tries to copy cat you in order to circumvent paying fees. Risk of the game, but it shouldn't be made as easy as it is now.
Àlex Duran
cojoq: hide your funds should be an option.
DeepCryptoDive
Àlex Duran: Well, since all action happens on-chain, people will be able to copy your fund trades anyway, whether they are shown in the UI or not. That is sort of the point of this permisionless decentralization approach.
In my opinion, the strength of a good manager lies in spotting opportunities and acting on them at the best possible time. Not in obscuring their trades.
Nonetheless, I would not oppose to fund managers that want to do so, to have their holdings hidden in the UI.

DeepCryptoDive: In theory, yes you're right. But we've noticed certain traders playing a cat and mouse game with certain things. Having too much visibility on the strategies enable counter traders to pop up that take advantage of the transparency.
